When we first advertised for Cosplayers to expand our 'Real Life Superhero' brand from children to adults we weren't sure what sort of response we would receive.  From our applicants we chose three very unique characters, The Joker, Catwoman and Deadpool.  The Joker's session and artwork has been showcased on another of our blogs Joker Blog and we are due to release Catwoman in the next few days.

We were a little unsure about working with the Deadpool character as he is fully masked and to be perfectly honest I for one (this is really embarrassing) didn't know who Deadpool was... My 21yo son promptly had me sit down in front of the TV and watch the movie from start to finish and by the end I was in love with his character.

Deadpool is not your average comic book character.  His personality is shaped by his experimental treatment for cancer which left him with not only physical scars but a warped mind.  Addressing the audience directly, commonly known as "breaking the fourth wall" Deadpool is endearing despite his being totally inappropriate at times. He argues with himself, is a smart arse, irresponsible, violent, and is obnoxious yet he is difficult not to relate to. His ability to heal from almost any injury and perform superhuman manoeuvres adds to the ridiculous nature of his character.

So armed with this limited knowledge of the Deadpool character we welcomed Brett into the studio.  Brett's enthusiasm for the character was contagious.  His costume was amazing and his attention to details incredible. Brett had brought with him Deadpool comic books, a tiny hand and towel, swords, guns (toy ones) and had created his own "ouchie" drawing.

I just love this "behind the scenes pic" with Mat making some minor adjustments while Deadpool is totally engrossed in reading his own comic book while he waits for his hand to regrow.

Our aim is to always capture images that can be used to create a "composite" image, placing the character into a "Real Life" scenario.  We had a few ideas in mind and eventually decided up an action scene with Deadpool amongst chaos and destruction, guns blazing.

With so many expressions and character traits we captured far more images that what was required for just a composite. As a result we developed a number of collages for Brett who chose one to be printed as a metallic 30 x 30" framed print.

We had a bit of fun with Blue Ted.

As we got to know Brett a little we discovered he is a talented airbrush artist.  You can find his work at M Art Ink.  We will have one of his Captain America airbrush paintings handing in our studio shortly!

Thank Brett - we had a ball bringing Deadpool to life!
